St Aldhelm Bronze Figure (2005-06) Sherborne Abbey, Dorset In 2004, Marzia Colonna was commissioned to make the statue of St Aldhelm for Sherborne Abbey to commemorate the 1300th anniversary of its foundation. Designed to stand above the main entrance to the Abbey, the bronze figure is spiritual and serene, arms held out as if to welcome the congregation. Due to popular demand a subsequent cast was made and can be seen inside the Abbey. The images below show the sculpture during construction. |
